
“The Six String Gypsy”
Maranda Jane is an Artiste’ with an innate musical ability who started picking out tunes on the family piano when she was first able to crawl up onto the piano bench.
Before the age of seven Maranda Jane began traveling to participate in fiddling, buck dancing, and square dance contests’ at bluegrass festivals. As a recognized top competitor and true to her competitive nature Maranda placed “in the money” in nearly every competition she entered. Before age thirteen she had placed twice as the reserve National Beginner Fiddle Champion.
Maranda’s first paying professional gig came at the age of fourteen when she played the part of a mystical fiddler in a Phillip DePoy written production of “Cotton Eyed Joe” at the Temple Theater in Sanford, North Carolina.
While she was still fourteen, she focused her attention even more closely on the world of musical theater when she was accepted into and attended a New York State Theater Institute summer program held at Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. This event was the start of a long relationship with both Russell Sage College and New York State Theater Institute.
During her high school and freshman college years she continued to hone her skills in various school productions and also as a member of the Melvin Sloan Dance team performing on the world famous Grand Ole Opry.
In 2005 Maranda was graduated Cum Laude from New York State Theater Institute. She possesses a Bachelors Degree in Musical Theater.
Since graduation Maranda has at various times worked for New York State Theater Institute as a Vocal Coach, Assistant Choreographer, Violinist, and Assistant Director.
She now lives in Denver, Colorado and is continuing her college education. In her spare time she continues to write songs and plays an occasional coffee shop gig in the Denver front range region.
